Evan and I are about 3 months away from moving to Colorado. While there are many things about this move that excites us, there are a lot of scary unknowns. This weekend when we were out for our date night, we decided to take some time and make some lists, for the purpose of discussing and realizing for ourselves some things that are both scary and exciting about our big move. We made lists of our realistic expectations about our future life in Colorado, both good and bad, as well as a list of our fears due to the move. Our final list we made was one of assurances, one to go with each fear. I wanted to include these lists that made on our blog. This way, not only do people know whats going on with us, but maybe you all would know a little bit better how to pray for us. Some items on our lists may be vague, but none are secret. So feel free to question :)
Good Expectations:
We will live in a nicer apartment
We will have parking!!
We will have Evan's family close by
We will get a chance for a fresh start
We will be out of the city
We will have two cars to use
Evan will be learning more and experiencing ministry
Grace will start to find an identity
Bad Expectations:
Finances will be tight pretty much every month
We will have to wait longer for kids than we had hoped
We will have minimal time together during the week
Finding a new church family may be initially difficult and discouraging
We will be far away from my family
We may have difficulty making new friends
We may have unexpected crisis or stress
Evan may experience discouragement in his job
We will most likely have to move again in a year
Fears [Assurances]
-We wont be able to have kids for several years [This desire is from God. He will care for us in our patience and make the joy all the sweeter when that time comes]
-We will have a hard time finding friends [God has designed us for community. He will provide friendships]
-Evan may find himself entering old drama [He is a new man. God will grant courage and ability to avoid the old drama. His old insecurities are met in his new identity]
-Evan may feel like a failure at times in his new job [This struggle will be a good one. He will learn to find security in the right things]
-Grace will be unable to find a good job with flexibility [God provides strength in difficult circumstances, and teaches through them]
-Evan will feel worn from his classes in seminary [He will become a better student. The fight for hope is a good fight]
-We may find distance between us starting to build due to difficult circumstances [God loves marriage, He designed it and will provide the strength to fight for each other while he meets our relational needs]
-Grace will become easily depressed [God calls Evan to love and rebuke, but he is not ultimately responsible for my response to my circumstances. Also, God will never release me. If I let Him, He will show me how to have joy and hope]
-Grace will not find the identity she feels she has lost this year [God is most concerned with my identity. My identity is foremost as Gods daughter. Beyond that, He will provide understanding of my gifts, talents, etc as well as joy in my true identity]
We honestly feel now, even though there are scary things in front of us, that we have a realistic picture of life to come. There will be joy, there will be pain, but the most encouraging part are all the assurances found on that last list we made. These are what we know to be true about God and His faithfulness.
